The Agracetus Campus of Monsanto
Agracetus, located in Middleton, Wisconsin, was founded in 1981 and has been a part
of Monsanto since 1996. It is an R&D facility that specializes in crop plant transformation
and molecular biology. The Agracetus campus is located on 4.5 acres and contains
approximately 100,000 square feet of research space. The campus houses research
laboratories and a 35,000 square foot greenhouse complex. In addition to being Monsanto's
center of excellence for soybean transformation and research, the campus also has
efforts in cotton and rice transformation. Other efforts include the nutritional
improvement of plants for human and animal consumption. Agracetus has approximately
60 full-time staff members. The most prominent fields of expertise include molecular
biology, tissue culture, agronomy, plant physiology, and genetics.
