In Soda Springs, we do more than just mine. We produce elemental phosphorous, a key component to ensuring farmers are more productive--something that’s becoming increasingly important in our growing world.
At Monsanto, we’ve made a commitment to provide farmers with the tools they need to produce more crops while conserving more resources like land and fuel. A part of this is Roundup® brand agricultural herbicides. And currently, an ingredient of Roundup brand herbicides starts with phosphorous from Soda Springs.
Farmers across the U.S. rely on Roundup brand herbicides to control weeds and increase yields on their farms in a safe way, while also protecting the environment. Roundup brand herbicides can reduce the need for plowing fields, giving farmers the ability to implement conservation tillage (or no-till) practices. These practices reduce greenhouse gas emissions, conserve valuable topsoil, reduce soil runoff into streams, and decrease fuel use by reducing the number of trips across the fields.
Globally, studies have shown no-till practices have reduced agriculture’s impact on the environment by reducing soil erosion and fuel use, among others. That’s a testament to Roundup brand herbicides. And that’s why Soda Springs is an important part of Monsanto.
