Facts about soybeans
in Illinois:
Did You Know?

- That’s equal to about 12,850 combines.

Asgrow Seed Customer Receives First Shipment of Soybeans with the New Monsanto Roundup Ready 2 Yield® Trait
Farmers across the United States have been awaiting higher-yielding soybeans. For some soybean farmers, the wait is over. Monsanto’s Roundup Ready 2 Yield® soybean technology not only has higher yield potential, but also the same dependable and flexible weed control farmers have depended on for more than a decade.
An Illinois grower made history during the first week of February when he received the first delivery of Roundup Ready 2 Yield soybeans from his Asgrow® dealer.
Monsanto's Roundup Ready 2 Yield soybeans will be introduced on 1 million to 2 million U.S. acres for the 2009 season as part of a controlled commercial release, followed by a large-scale product launch of 5 million to 6 million U.S. acres scheduled for 2010. But the introduction of Roundup Ready 2 Yield soybeans doesn’t stop in 2010. This second-generation soybean technology will be Monsanto’s preferred platform for the introduction of both current and future agronomic and quality soybean traits.

Why are farmers excited to get this technology on 1 to 2 million acres in 2009 as part of a controlled commercial release?
- Roundup Ready 2 Yield offers farmers the same flexible, dependable weed control and crop safety as first-generation Roundup Ready soybeans, but with higher-yield potential resulting from advanced gene mapping and insertion technology.
- Roundup Ready 2 Yield® was developed through extensive gene mapping that allowed Monsanto to identify specific DNA regions in soybeans that have a positive impact on yield. Thanks to advanced insertion and selection technologies, the Roundup Ready 2 Yield® gene is situated in one of these high-yield DNA regions.
- Observations show higher yield is driven by more beans per pod with Roundup Ready 2 Yield® compared to the first-generation technology.
- More beans per pod, leads to more bushels in the bin, which leads to more profit potential per acre!
