Progressive Agriculture Foundation Safety Day™ Program

Yearly, more than 20,000 young people are injured or killed in a farm-related incident. Even more shocking is that following simple safety precautions could have prevented these tragedies. That's why the Progressive Agriculture Safety Day™ program has been providing education and training to help make rural, farm and ranch life safer and healthier for all children since 1995.

As the only program of its kind in North America, it trains volunteers and provides resources that local communities need to conduct one-day safety programs that are age-appropriate, hands-on, fun and safe for children. Included is the latest information needed to conduct a Safety Day as well as t-shirts, take-home bags, publicity help and insurance.

Each year the program makes possible approximately 380 Safety Days™ reaching more than 60,000 participants, and it enlists the help of 16,000 adult and older teen volunteers.

Safety Days focus on the topics of interest within each community including all-terrain vehicle (ATV) safety, animal safety, bicycle safety, chemical safety, electrical safety, farm equipment safety and tractor safety. The program primarily reaches children 8 to 13, but may be held for 4- to 7-year-olds or even entire families.

Monsanto is a long-time supporter of the Safety Day program, marking its 10th year of contribution in 2008, including providing funds for development of a methamphetamine awareness course. In 2007, Monsanto’s Vistive™ brand established a matching grant for development of family health and wellness lessons.

Monsanto is committed to rural youth and their well being. We invite individuals and organizations interested in supporting this worthwhile effort or in hosting a Safety Day to call 888-257-3529 or visit www.progressiveag.org for more information. Safety Day applications are due each July 15 for Safety Days that will be conducted the following calendar year.
