"At a minimum, Monsanto will comply with all applicable local, state and national laws regarding human rights and workers' rights where the company does business."
It is assumed by Monsanto employees, shareholders, consumers, and other
important stakeholders that Monsanto will always follow the local law wherever
it does business. This is an expectation that society has for all companies.
The above provision on legal compliance reinforces this ongoing expectation that
all stakeholders have for our company.
This specific provision was created to cover any human rights or worker rights issues Monsanto may encounter in our daily operations that have not been addressed in this Guidebook. As we have said previously, human rights in business is still a relatively new area of corporate social responsibility. There may very well be emerging human rights issues that are not addressed by a specific code provision, but may be addressed locally by the law.
