Pipeline Research Areas

Corn
Our corn portfolio works to demonstrate benefits to the farmer through increased yield, improved insect and disease protection, and increased tolerance to stress. Our corn products are also aimed at delivering enhanced benefits to processors including better quality animal feed and corn with higher levels of oil for food and fuel.

Cotton
Our cotton pipeline seeks to provide benefits to the farmer through herbicide tolerance, insect protection, tolerance to environmental stress and products that improve lint yield.

Oilseeds
Our research on oilseed crops, including soybeans and canola, offers benefits to the farmer, the processor and the consumer. Farmers benefit from increased yield or protection from stress; consumers benefit from better tasting and improved oils with zero trans fats and enhanced levels of omega-3 fatty acids; and processors benefit from higher levels of oil and improved protein for feed, food and fuel.

Other Crop Research
Besides row crops, Monsanto’s innovative research also benefits crops like alfalfa, sugarbeets, fruits and vegetables. Today, we license our Roundup Ready technology to sugarbeet and alfalfa seed companies to provide farmers an opportunity to see the benefits in the field.

In the future, depending on business and commercial opportunities, Monsanto may evaluate the potential applicability of biotechnology for crops like fruits and vegetables.

Next-Generation Weed Control
In addition to in-the-seed innovation, we are continually delivering new Roundup agricultural brand herbicide and other chemistry formulations, so farmers are constantly offered improved weed control options.
