Two new products were added to Monsanto’s R&D pipeline in the fourth annual update.
Second-generation, insect-protected Roundup Ready 2 Yield soybeans are designed to offer South American farmers an additional mode of action to enhance and expand insect control. The product has a wider spectrum of target pests than the first-generation insect-protected Roundup Ready 2 Yield soybeans. It also is effective on Spodoptera, a pest prevalent in the Brazilian market.
The project is new to the soy R&D portfolio and in Phase 1, which is the early developmental stage for our biotech products.
Also introduced into Phase 1 is the first-generation of insect-protected Roundup Ready sugar cane, Monsanto’s first product in that field. This product further leverages the company’s investment in sugar cane.
