A total of 11 projects – one more than the company’s all-time record – across the company’s core crop portfolio moved a step closer to commercialization. These and other projects in the company’s research and development pipeline will help farmers meet the unprecedented global challenges of population growth and climate change that agriculture faces.
Dicamba- & Glufosinate-tolerant corn
This next-generation herbicide-tolerant corn product builds on the Roundup Ready platform and will provide farmers with additional herbicide tolerances options. The multiple herbicide tolerances with different modes of action will offer growers more flexibility to manage difficult weed problems and protect their crop from yield-robbing noxious weed infestations.
FOPS Tolerance
This next-generation herbicide tolerance product in corn builds in the Roundup platform and would provide farmers with additional in-crop options for weed management. FOPS is a low-cost tank mixing partner for post-emergence control of potential resistant grasses. Current in-crop solutions provide some grass control but crop response can be an issue and may impact yield.
Genuity™ SmartStax™ Refuge-in-a-Bag
Refuge-in-a-Bag would eliminate the need for farmers to set aside a portion of their field as a refuge by including the right amount of transgenic and non-transgenic – or conventional seeds – in the same bag.
Roundup Hybridization System (RHS) for Corn
The Roundup Hybridization System for corn would replace detasseling in hybrid seed corn production, thus reducing cost of goods. RHS, which moved to Phase 3, utilizes a transgenic corn trait created by Monsanto that exhibits high tolerance to glyphosate in all tissues except male plant reproductive tissues.
Carefully researched glyphosate application rates and timings will maximize glyphosate delivery to the developing male plant reproductive tissues, selectively inducing male sterility and eliminating the need for manual or mechanical detasseling. The hybrid seed generated from this technology results in a fully fertile and glyphosate-tolerant plant.
Yieldgard® Corn Borer III
YieldGard corn borer offers a wide spectrum of control against key lepidopteran pests using two distinct modes of actions. This second-generation product is more durable and provides the potential for reduced refuge, thus increasing productivity.
This product is designed to offer an unparalleled combination of insect control and resistance management with excellent control of target pests such as the corn borer complex, fall armyworm, corn earworm and cutworms.
Yieldgard® Rootworm III
Moving Phase I to Phase II
YieldGard Rootworm III is designed to offer increased control and durability against the corn rootworm.
Insect-protected Genuity™ Roundup Ready 2 Yield® Soybeans
Moving from Phase III to Phase IV
The Bt trait is stacked with Genuity™ Roundup Ready 2 Yield for excellent weed control and yield enhancement.
Vistive® Gold
Moving from Phase III to Phase IV
The Vistive® Gold trait, formally Vistive® III, combines breeding and biotechnology to lower linolenic and saturate content while boosting oleic content of soybeans.
Omega-3 soybeans
Moving from Phase III to Phase IV
Omega-3 soybeans offer a sustainable, land-based alternative to fish-based omega-3 fatty acids.
Dicamba- and glufosinate-tolerant cotton
Moving from Phase II to Phase III
This product is the third-generation of herbicide tolerance in cotton and represents Monsanto’s first three-way stack of herbicide-tolerant technologies.
Roundup Ready® 2 Canola
Moving from Phase II to Phase III
This product is a second-generation weed-control trait designed to provide farmers with improved weed control and greater flexibility.
