Research & Development Pipeline

The 2015 Pipeline Update

More than 20,000 Monsanto employees focus on delivering innovative and sustainable products to farmers around the world that help to improve yields while using fewer inputs. These products get their start in our research and development pipeline, where our researchers look to bring the best seeds to farmers’ fields. Our robust pipeline spans more than a dozen crops and technologies in different phases of development. These products find a place in one of four areas of the pipeline—breeding, biotechnology, agronomics and new technology platforms.

As farmer needs evolve, so does our research and development pipeline. Today, we are focused on delivering systems of products that work together to address the challenges farmers face and maximize their yield potential.

Yield potential is important because the world population is expected to reach 9.6 billion people by 2050. Farmers will need access to tools and technologies to help themselves feed the world. That’s why we like to call our pipeline update “a window into agriculture’s future,” because Monsanto researchers are working on solutions for farmers that can have an impact in the near-term and long-term.

Commercialization of pipeline projects is dependent on many factors including the successful conclusion of the regulatory process.
