Processor Preferred High Fermentable Corn Hybrids Demonstrate Monsanto Commitment to Ethanol Industry

As demand continues to grow for alternative fuel sources, dry mill ethanol plants are requesting greater amounts of High Fermentable Corn (HFC) to obtain the highest possible ethanol yields for greater profitability. Corn growers can participate in this market opportunity by growing Monsanto’s Processor Preferred High Fermentable Corn hybrids that offer new choice and value for farmers.

Processor Preferred hybrids are available in over 90 independent seed brands. Developed to meet both grower and processor needs, these hybrids not only have the potential to produce more bushels per acre, but also can deliver 2 percent to 4 percent more ethanol per bushel than commodity corn.

Processor Preferred products are also available with a wide selection of traits that help growers increase their yields, including the Roundup Ready® weed control and YieldGard® insect control technologies. “Processor Preferred High Fermentable Corn delivers higher potential return for grower investors and local corn growers, while still providing hybrids with strong agronomics and yield,” said Troy Hobbs, Corn Biofuels Strategy Lead for Monsanto. “Supporting ethanol provides economic benefits for rural communities and helps reduce consumer dependence on foreign oil.”

In addition to growing highfermentable-corn products, many farmers are also investors in ethanol plants because they realize the value-added benefits of ethanol production.

“As a company focused solely on agriculture, Monsanto is committed to help create new market opportunities that help make farmers successful,” said Hobbs. “Processor Preferred hybrids enable farmers to realize additional profit potential by participating in the fastest-growing market for corn-ethanol production.”
