Monsanto Honored For Best Practices in Diversity by Diversityinc

4/25/2013

Each year, DiversityInc surveys a wide range of industries and salutes those whose leadership, procurement practices, communications and training reflect best practices in diversity. This week, DiversityInc named Monsanto Company the No. 2 company for global diversity and ranked the company No. 42 on the 2013 DiversityInc Top 50 Companies for Diversity® list. The agricultural leader is the only St. Louis headquartered company to make the list.

"We are thrilled to have Monsanto recognized again for our inclusive work place and our commitment to diversity,” said Melissa Harper, Monsanto's vice president of global talent acquisition/diversity. "We have more than 20,000 employees across the globe, and our success depends on our ongoing efforts to attract, retain and develop talented employees with diverse backgrounds who will bring new and innovative ideas to our organization.”

DiversityInc uses empirical data to determine the Top 50 Companies for Diversity®. Participating organizations must have at least 1,000 employees and are required to fill out a detailed survey divided into four areas: CEO Commitment, Human Capital, Corporate and Organizational Communications, and Supplier Diversity. This year’s survey had 893 companies participate. In naming Monsanto to the list, DiversityInc specifically cited the company’s recognition of its employees through programs designed to help them discover and develop individual talents as the company’s most important resource.

"Under the leadership of CEO Hugh Grant and Vice President Melissa Harper, Monsanto has increased its talent-development initiatives, especially for women. For example, the company's ratio of women's promotions in management compared with management demographics was 1.37-1, versus a DiversityInc Top 50 average of 1-1," said DiversityInc CEO Luke Visconti.

Harper accepted the award on behalf of the company at an annual reception and dinner in New York.
