Video: Farmers Talk about Monsanto's Yields of Tomorrow Tour
Monsanto’s plot tour at the Farm Progress Show is always a sight to see, but this year, visitors are getting a different look at Monsanto’s technologies.
The 2009 Yields of Tomorrow tour focuses on Monsanto’s commitment to sustainable agriculture. Visitors will see agriculture technologies from the past, present and future – and see how farm productivity has increased over the years and will continue to do so in the years to come.
In late August, some Illinois farmers had the opportunity to go on a preview tour of Monsanto’s plot, and they were pleased with what they saw.
“I really think not just farmers, but more the general public, should come through here and see how far agriculture has come,” Ed Harris, an Illinois farmer and seed dealer, said.
“I really admired taking a virtual walk through time, more or less, from where we’ve been in the industry, where we are at and where we see ourselves going down the road,” Jerry Harbour, another Illinois farmer and seed retailer, said. “Overall, I thought it was a very well-done tour that gave a lot of information in a short amount of time.”
“Seeing everything visually gives you an idea of the commitment Monsanto’s making toward doubling our yields by 2030,” Steve Hettinger, Illinois farmer and seed dealer, said. “It’s a great visual way to reinforce what they’re telling us.”
