Market Choices®

The National Corn Growers Association(NCGA) has worked with Monsanto and other interested parties to improve stewardship of biotech crops that must be directed to appropriate markets. We want to help growers easily identify and market grain from hybrids and varieties that are fully approved for food and feed use by the United States, Canada and Japan but have yet to receive approval in Europe.

Market Choices is a seed industry initiative that builds on NCGA's Know Before You GrowSM information service. The Market Choices symbol in a seed guide or on a tag for Roundup Ready® corn indicates that growers must find a market that does not ship grain or processed products to Europe.

While Roundup Ready soybeans, YieldGard® Corn Borer corn and several other biotech crops are approved for food and feed uses in all key markets, Roundup Ready corn, YieldGard Corn Borer stacked with Roundup Ready corn, YieldGard Rootworm and YieldGard Rootworm stacked with Roundup Ready corn are still awaiting European approval. The American Seed Trade Association Web site (www.amseed.org) includes a list of grain handlers accepting these products. (Click on the Grain Handler's Database section).

Monsanto's Commitment

U. S. growers deserve access to new technology tools as well as markets for their crops. That's why Monsanto continues to research promising seed traits, while pledging to commercially launch only new products that have received full food and feed approval in both the United States and Japan.
