FFA and Monsanto Providing Scholarships for Youth to Cultivate a Career in Agriculture

Agriculture is more than just farming—it’s thousands of careers in a variety of fields, including plant science, engineering, communications, finance and much more. Monsanto in connection with the National FFA Scholarship program are providing rural students with the opportunity to earn a $1,500 scholarship to pursue their education in agricultural majors through America’s Farmers Grow Ag Leaders.

Like today’s farmers, we are committed to helping the next generation remain engaged in agriculture. We understand the importance of education, and today’s students will be tomorrow’s agricultural leaders.

According to a recent United States Department of Agriculture report, “the agricultural, food, and renewable natural resources sectors of the U.S. economy will generate an estimated 54,400 annual openings for individuals with baccalaureate or higher degrees in food, renewable energy, and environmental specialties between 2010 and 2015.” With the population expected to escalate quickly by the year 2050, the agriculture industry needs talented, driven and passionate young people interested in helping feed, clothe and fuel the world.

In 2013, Grow Ag Leaders was piloted in 36 Crop Reporting Districts in nine states throughout the United States. This year, the program will launch nationally in November and eligible students will then be able to apply.
