Our current CSR commitments:

In line with Monsanto’s CSR thematic focus on Sustainable Agriculture, Improving Education and Nutrition, and Community Engagement through addressing critical needs around access to clean drinking water, sanitation and livelihoods, Monsanto is taking on the following CSR projects in key prioritized geographies. SHARE Programs

Project 1: Sustainable Yield Initiative- Project SHARE- Sustainable Agriculture and Market Integration through Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs)

Partner: Indian Society of Agribusiness Professionals (ISAP)

Geography: Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh

Scope and Impact: The project will augment yields of 71,000 farmers across the 4 States sustainably, through input- output capacity building of the farmers, imparting best package of practices through creation of demo/ model plots, creation of irrigation infrastructures; facilitating market linkages & aggregating them into sustainable Farmer Producer Organizations engaged in profitable agri business operations.

Project 2: Impacting Livelihoods through improved farming and integrated land and water resource development

Partner: Professional Assistance for Development Action (PRADAN)

Geography: Kalahandi, Orissa

Scope and Impact: Improving lives of 3,000+ agrarian households in 240 villages in Odisha, in few of the most backward regions in the Country, by providing an integrated land and water resource management model, improving farming systems, livestock rearing, better market linkages & construction of irrigation structures.

DISHA Programs

Project 3: School Nutrition Project

Partner: Akshaya Patra Foundation

Geography: Orissa, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Rajasthan and Gujarat

Scope and Impact: The project will address the predominant problem of malnutrition in children causing stunted growth in their formative years due to lack of access to good quality nutritious food & awareness on importance of nutrition in the daily diets for proper growth. The project will provide nutritious school meals to 45,000 children in 450 Government schools in Orissa, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Rajasthan & Gujarat over 3 years, along with sensitization on hygiene and nutrition awareness to children, teachers & parents, for fostering education & bringing about a positive impact on the health and nutrition of children.

Project 4: Kitchen Garden Project

Partner: Akshaya Patra Foundation

Geography: Jaipur, Rajasthan

Scope and Impact: Enhancing food and nutritional security for 150,000 children in 1400 Govt. Schools in Rajasthan via the school mid-day meal program. The kitchen garden project provides the nutritional component in the mid day meals through regular supply of vegetables to their centralized mechanized kitchen. Solar Dehydrating Plants have been installed to ensure supply of nutritious vegetables even during off seasons.

Project 5: Improving learning levels of children from agriculture Communities

Partner: Deshkal Society

Geography: Purnia, Bihar

Scope and Impact: The project will enhance the learning levels of children from agricultural communities through improving the teaching-learning practices & strengthening the School Education Committees (SEC) for creating an effective School system. The project will cover 165 primary schools and upper primary schools, with around 48,000 students over 2 years.

Project 6: Improving Reading abilities/ learning levels of children in Government Primary Schools by establishing school libraries

Partner: Room to Read

Geography: Maharashtra

Scope and Impact: The project will establish 11 libraries in Government primary schools in Mumbai, Maharashtra to provide a child-friendly, print-rich literary environment in schools. In addition to establishing the physical aspects of the library, Room to Read will train & do capacity building for teachers and volunteers who manage the library. This collaboration will help to provide the gift of education to approximately 1500 children and their families. The program provides access to quality reading materials, designated reading hours, and a child-friendly literary environment that increase the habit of reading.

Project 7: Stepping towards “Swatch” and “Unnat” Bharat: An Integrated Rural Development Approach through improved water, Sanitation and livelihoods opportunities

Partner: Action For Food Production (AFPRO)

Geography: 35 villages across 10 districts of Andhra Pradesh, Telengana & Karnataka; 20 villages across 5 districts of Maharsahtra; 5 villages in Silvassa, UT of Dadra and Nagar Haveli.

Scope and Impact: Supporting community development covering around 1 Lac rural community members to provide better access to clean drinking water & sanitation facilities. Create 40 model villages with intensive efforts on water & sanitation activities leading to positive health benefits for the communities.

- Increasing rural household access to safer & sustainable drinking water sources through creation of new surface and ground water sources.

- Creation of community irrigation and watershed development infrastructure to enable additional cropping cycles enabling increased farm incomes

- Access to sanitation facilities by constructing toilets & community sensitization trainings on better hygiene leading to healthy lifestyles

- Strengthening of Women’s self help groups (SHGs) by skill based trainings like poultry, goatery, sewing etc., contribution to household incomes

Project 8: Secondary School in Uttarakhand

Partner: Habitat for Humanity

Geography: Uttaranchal

Scope and Impact: Supporting community development covering around 1 Lac rural community members to provide better access to clean drinking water & sanitation facilities. Create 40 model villages with intensive efforts on water & sanitation activities leading to positive health benefits for the communities.

Aim: Enabling livelihood rehabilitation for flood affected communities through Education infrastructure

Monsanto is partnering with Habitat for Humanity for reconstructing the school infrastructure in Bagasudhar, Tehri district, in one of the most flood affected areas in Uttaranchal. This will enable the children of the flood affected families to get access to education facilities, which were destroyed by the floods.
