1960 – An Agricultural Division is formed within Monsanto
1970 – Dr. John Franz makes N-(Phosphonomethyl) glycine (glyphosate) for herbicide use.
1974 - Original Roundup® brand herbicide commercialized in Malaysia and the UK and registered for industrial use in the U.S.
1976 – Roundup commercialized for agricultural use in the U.S.
1978 – Molecular biology program started in ag research
1987 - First transgenic plants are field tested by Monsanto
1994 – Original Roundup® brand herbicide named by Farm Chemicals Magazine as one of the “Top Ten Products that Changed the Face of Agriculture”
1996 – Roundup Ready® soybeans are introduced
1996 – Roundup Ultra® herbicide labeled – First with “Transorb® Technology”
1996 – Roundup herbicides and its manufacturing processes earn the Presidential Award for Sustainable Development and the Presidential Green Chemistry Challenge Award
2007 – Dr. John Franz is inducted into the National Inventor’s Hall of Fame for his invention of glyphosate
2007 – Roundup PowerMAX™ commercialized
