Interview Opportunities

Visit Monsanto Tents #958 (DEKALB® and Asgrow®) and #854 (Traits)

Media are invited to visit Monsanto’s tents to view product displays and interview marketing and technical spokespersons. Featured products and technologies will include:

  • Second-generation Roundup Ready 2 Yield™ soybeans, which will have a controlled commercial release targeting 2 million acres in 2009. Roundup Ready 2 Yield soybeans provide the same dependable, flexible weed control as first generation Roundup Ready® soybeans, but now with higher yield potential. Four years of Monsanto field trials showed that Roundup Ready 2 Yield soybeans achieved 7-11 percent higher yields than the comparable near isogenic line of Roundup Ready soybeans.

  • Monsanto’s Corn Traits Pipeline, which includes:

    • YieldGard VT Triple PRO™, a new triple-stack technology, planned for introduction in 2009 pending import approvals, offers the first ever dual mode of action for above-ground corn insect protection, providing broad spectrum control of corn earworm, corn borer and fall armyworm. Because of its dual mode of action, a refuge reduction for corn borer has been approved in the southern U.S. (from 50 to 20 percent) and there is a potential opportunity for a reduced corn borer refuge requirement in the northern Corn Belt. YieldGard VT Triple PRO is the next-generation of YieldGard VT Triple® technology, introduced in 2007. YieldGard VT Triple hybrids, with second-generation rootworm control, achieved a yield advantage of more than 12 bushels per acre over Pioneer® hybrids containing Herculex® XTRA last season.

    • SmartStax™ will combine the industry’s best performing trait package of herbicide tolerance and insect protection traits in a next generation corn trait stacked product. Scheduled for introduction in 2010, pending regulatory approval, SmartStax will combine eight independent modes of action in multiple traits to provide season-long yield protection for above- and below-the-ground insect protection and weed control. Multiple modes of action above and below ground hinders insect resistance and provides the potential opportunity for a reduced refuge.

  • DEKALB® corn, featuring 16 new base genetics for 2009, is the market leader in offering industry-leading, exclusive genetics and the latest traits. Year after year, the brand delivers superior performance that continually outyields competitors’ leading products, thanks to strong roots, strong stalks and a valuable drydown advantage. More than 40 DEKALB corn products currently contain YieldGard VT Triple and 15 new VT Triple products have been added for 2009. In 2007, DEKALB products with YieldGard VT Triple averaged 14.6 bushels per acre more than Pioneer Herculex XTRA.

  • Asgrow® soybeans, which will introduce 24 high-performing Elite products in 2009, consistently offer farmers uniform plant health and high yield potential by combining exclusive, uniform genetics with the right agronomic traits. Deltapine® soybean products are now integrated into the 2009 Asgrow product line, adding more maturity 4 through 7 products that are proven to perform well in tough growing environments. Asgrow will also lead the way in the introduction of new Roundup Ready 2 Yield soybean varieties next season.

  • Vistive® low-linolenic soybeans are currently being used by over 100 food companies to reduce or eliminate trans fats in their products, helping to meet consumer demand for healthier diets. For 2009, soybean farmers can choose from over 250 Vistive varieties offered by 27 different seed brands. Vistive low-lin soybeans provide comparable yields to commodity soybeans and a buyers’ call premium starting at 60 cents per bushel.

  • Processor Preferred® High-Fermentable Corn (HFC) hybrids offer high yield potential and can provide 2 percent to 4 percent more ethanol per bushel than commodity corn to help drive American energy independence. More than 1,300 Processor Preferred products are offered by more than 100 seed companies, the industry’s widest selection of HFC products.
