ST. LOUIS (March 1, 2007) — An enhanced cost-share allowance has been added to the Roundup Rewards® program for 2007, giving growers added protection against a competitive flush of Volunteer Roundup Ready® Corn 2 in Roundup Ready Soybeans.
If a farmer rotates to Roundup Ready Soybeans and encounters a competitive flush of Roundup Ready Corn 2, Monsanto will provide up to $1.30, $2.60 or $3.90 per acre toward the purchase of Select MAX™ herbicide, depending on the pre- and postemergence herbicides used.
"When farmers make an investment in Monsanto's herbicides and traits, they can rest assured that the Roundup Rewards program will back those investments," explained Chad Bush, Monsanto's Roundup Marketing Manager. "The enhancement of the Volunteer Roundup Ready Corn 2 cost-share allowance to the program is yet another reason why growers can rely on Roundup Rewards for support of their technology investment."
Growers are qualified for this cost-share allowance if they've rotated from Roundup Ready Corn 2 (alone or combined with other traits), to Roundup Ready Soybeans for the 2007 season; they use only labeled Roundup® agricultural herbicide brands for all nonselective herbicide burndown and in-crop applications on any Monsanto trait crops on their farm; they experience a competitive flush of Volunteer Roundup Ready Corn 2 that requires treatment; they use a Roundup Ready Rate of Harness® or Degree® brand residual herbicides on all of their Roundup Ready Corn 2 acres in 2007 (to qualify for an enhanced allowance); and they use Select MAX herbicide to control their Volunteer Roundup Ready Corn 2.
In addition to the volunteer corn cost share allowance, other Roundup Rewards elements include a crop safety guarantee, trait refunds for specified replant and crop loss, Roundup WeatherMAX 30 minute rainfast warranties, Roundup WeatherMAX tough conditions and tough weeds warranties and support from local Monsanto experts who offer advice and service.
Roundup Rewards offers farmers added protection through reduced risk program elements so they can farm with confidence when they use Monsanto technologies and follow agricultural herbicide recommendations. Since 1997, more than 300,000 farmers have participated in Roundup Rewards and have received more than $600 million in Roundup Rewards program benefits.
To qualify for the unmatched benefits of Roundup Rewards, farmers must use only Roundup brand agricultural herbicides, purchase them from a Monsanto Authorized Retailer or Seed Dealer and have a valid 2007 Monsanto Technology/Stewardship Agreement.
"Roundup has been the leading herbicide brand in the United States for over 30 years," said Bush. "One of the reasons why growers continue to put their trust in it is the Roundup Rewards program, a reduced-risk program that is unrivalled in the industry."
