Frequently Asked Questions
Internship/Co-op Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Where do I submit my resume?
A: To apply for a position, please visit monsanto.com/careers where you can create a profile, complete an on-line application, and set up alerts for jobs that meet your interests.
Q: Why doesn’t the system recognize my username and password?
A: In August, we implemented a new online recruitment system that will enhance your ability to seek career opportunities at Monsanto. All profiles from the previous system are searchable by our recruiters, but you will need to create a new profile to apply for a position.
If you have used the Taleo system for another company, your profile will not automatically transfer to Monsanto and you will need to create a new profile. .
Q: What is the status of my application?
A: Because Monsanto has recruiters working on numerous openings at a time, it is not possible to provide you direct contact information. When a recruiter or hiring manager would like to discuss a position with you or set up next steps, they will contact you directly. This is why it is important to keep your profile up to date in our database and you can accomplish this by logging in and editing your personal information.
It can take weeks to months for a position to be filled and we appreciate your patience.
Q: How can I unlock my account?
A: When the system locks your account, an email is sent to you. If you have not received the email, please check your junk mail and spam filters. If you still have not received the email, please email global.talent.acquisition@monsanto.com with “Technical Support” in the subject of your message.
Q: Why do I receive error messages when I try to move to the next step?
A: Make sure that you have entered all of the required information. You may need to scroll with multiple bars within the window in order to see the entire page. Also, be sure that you use only the navigation within the system and avoid the back/forward/refresh from your internet browser. If you are still having problems, clear your cache (cookies, internet history). If you continue to see the same error message, please document the steps you had taken and copy and paste the error message into an email message to global.talent.acquisition@monsanto.com with “Error Help” in the subject of your message.
Q: I received an email offering me a job and requesting additional information?
A: Unless you have received a verbal offer from the hiring manager or recruiter that you interviewed with, it is likely that your e-mail was from an individual misrepresenting himself/herself as a Monsanto employee. This e-mail solicitation DID NOT come from Monsanto, and was sent with neither our knowledge nor our approval. Please forward the email you received to global.talent.acquisition@monsanto.com with “E-Mail Offer” in the subject line. Your e-mail will provide us with a timely heads-up with which to investigate this scam. If you have received any correspondence regarding this matter through the U.S. Mail – for example, a check – contact the United States Postal Inspection Service at 1-877-876-2455. Do not cash the check. If you are interested in pursuing a career with Monsanto, please visit Monsanto.com and click on the “Careers” tab. There, you’ll find information about our company and what opportunities are available in your area. We thank you again for helping us to research this issue and wish you the best of luck in your job search.
Monsanto University Relations & Recruitment
Q: Does Monsanto offer student employment opportunities?
A: Yes! Monsanto has an established Intern and Co-op program, which hosts an average of 400 students each calendar year at locations across the United States. These positions are awarded through a competitive interview process and include project assignments designed to provide a student with exposure to and contribution within a Monsanto team. These roles are not viewed as seasonal or supplemental workforce, but rather an opportunity for a student to gain industry experience and to explore career opportunities within Monsanto. The program is also designed to assist Monsanto in assessing a student’s long-term potential within our company.
Q: What’s the difference between an intern and a co-op role at Monsanto?
A: At Monsanto, an Internship is a paid, full-time, summer assignment that typically begins in mid-May and ends in mid-August (alternative start/end dates are available for students attending a university with a trimester or quarterly academic system). A Co-Op role is a paid, full-time, 6-month assignment during which students are not enrolled in university studies on a full-time basis. Co-Op assignments are available in both the spring (January-June) and fall (June-December) semesters.
Q: What are the Intern & Co-Op Program’s basic requirements?
A: Qualified applicants meet the following criteria:
Current enrollment with a relevant BS, MS, or PhD program
The intention to return to academic studies following your intern or co-op assignment. (Those completing their degree prior to the start of an intern or co-op role are not eligible for the program and are instead encouraged to apply for full-time roles within our company.)
Good academic standing with your university (students currently on academic probation will not be considered). Most competitive candidates have a current cumulative GPA of at least 3.0/4.0.
Legal authorization to work within the United States for the duration of the assignment
Willingness to relocate for the duration of the assignment (if necessary)
Willingness and ability to successfully pass all pre-employment screenings and background checks
Additional requirements such as completion of specific coursework and/or previous work experience within a specific discipline may also be required. Such requirements are detailed within the individual position description and made available for review prior to submitting an application.
Q: Which disciplines and degree-levels does Monsanto hire for their Intern & Co-Op Program?
A: Summer internship and six month co-op opportunities are available across the U.S. for students pursing BS, MS, or PhD degrees within the following disciplines:
Accounting, Agronomy, Agribusiness, Biochemistry, Biology, Bioinformatics, Biotechnology, Business Administration, Chemistry, Computational Biology, Computer Science, Crop & Soil Science, Engineering (Agricultural, Chemical, Electrical, Mechanical, Seed Process, and Structural), Entomology, Environmental Health & Safety, Finance, Genetics, Information Systems, Molecular Biology and Supply Chain Management
Q: Will I have to relocate?
A: Many of our intern and co-op roles do require relocation for the duration of the assignment. In these instances, relocation assistance and allowances are provided to students who qualify.
Q: Are Monsanto internships and co-op roles paid?
A: Yes, all intern and co-op roles at Monsanto are paid positions.
Q: Can I gain experience at Monsanto as a volunteer or unpaid team member?
A: Unfortunately, we are unable to host students on a voluntary or unpaid basis.
Q: When is the best time to apply?
A:All Monsanto intern and co-op roles are posted to www.monsanto.com/careers and to select universities in August of the year prior to the start date. For example, most 2011 intern and co-op roles will be posted in August 2010. The best time to apply is August – September, with the understanding that you will be considered along with all who apply between then and November.
Q: How do I apply?
A: Visit http://www.monsanto.com > click Careers > select US Job Opportunities > select Advanced Search > under Job Type, select Internship > click Search for Jobs
Please Note: For immediate consideration, we recommend applying directly to individual requisition(s) versus simply creating profile and uploading a resume for general consideration. This will also ensure that we have a clear understanding of the type of assignments and work locations that interest you most. It is not recommended that you forward your resume to Monsanto representatives outside of the application system.
Q: I applied to a position recently, but no longer see it posted online.
A: Once a position is filled, we remove it from view online. Also, on occasion, the decision is made to cancel a role. You will receive email notification if/when a position for which you apply is cancelled or filled by an alternative candidate
Q: Is Monsanto visiting my campus this semester?
A: To view our current campus recruitment calendar, please visit:
