Awards and Recognition

Monsanto is regularly honored with awards recognizing our employees’ innovation, leadership, and workplace satisfaction. This recognition generally reflects feedback provided by our employees and others in the respective communities. We are pleased to highlight some of these awards here.              

Monsanto Ranks #42 on 2013 Top 50 Companies for Diversity.
For the sixth consecutive year, Monsanto was recognized as one of the DiversityInc Top 50 Companies for Diversity. In 2013 the company ranked 42 moving up 2 places from 2012. This is a significant achievement for Monsanto given that participation in the survey process increased by over 50%. Almost 900 companies responded to DiversityInc and only 5% of companies that applied were recognized on the 2013 list. In addition to our ranking on the top 50 list, Monsanto ranked 2nd on the Top Companies for Global Diversity.

American Heart Association recognizes Monsanto as a 2013 Platinum Level Fit-Friendly Company.
Monsanto was recognized for the third consecutive year as both a Platinum Fit-Friendly Company and as a recipient of a Worksite Innovation Award for supporting wellness programs in St. Louis. The Platinum Level is the highest level of recognition from the American Heart Association’s Start! initiative. The Start! Fit-Friendly Companies Program is a catalyst for positive change in American business. Companies throughout the nation can be part of the Start! Initiative by demonstrating progressive leadership by making the health and wellness of their employees a priority.

Corporate Responsibility Magazine recognizes Monsanto as one of the 100 Best Corporate Citizens for 2013.
Monsanto ranked number 36 on the list based on performance in seven key areas associated with corporate responsibility. The company ranked highest in human rights and employee practices.

Monsanto named one of the National Association for Female Executives (NAFE) Top 50 Companies for Executive Women for 2013.
Monsanto was recognized for the company’s commitment to providing development opportunities for female employees in the form of leadership training programs, mentoring opportunities, a women’s resource group and educational support. In addition, 30 percent of Monsanto’s senior management roles are held by women. This is Monsanto’s first appearance on the NAFE list.

The 2013 NAFE Top 50 Companies application includes more than 200 questions on female representation at all levels, but especially the corporate officer and leadership ranks. The application also tracks access and usage of programs and policies that promote the advancement of women, as well as the training and accountability of managers in relation to the number of women who advance. To be considered, companies must have a minimum of two women on their boards of directors as well as at least 1000 employees in the U.S. (Feb. 2013)

Monsanto ranks #44 on the 22nd Annual “Top 50 Employers” in Minority Engineer Magazine.
The readers of Minority Engineer magazine selected the top companies in the country for which they would most prefer to work or believe are progressive in hiring minority engineers. These are the results of an annual reader survey mailed to randomly selected readers of Minority Engineer magazine. Monsanto ranked #46 in 2012. (Jan. 2013)

Monsanto recognized as one of the 40 Best Companies for Leaders 2013 by Chief Executive magazine.
Monsanto ranked #11, up from #40 in 2012, in the study of about 1,000 firms worldwide conducted in partnership with Chally Group Worldwide. Companies were scored on five  key criteria, including: having a formal leadership process in place; the commitment level of the CEO to the leadership development program, as measured by the percent of personal time spent in these activities; the depth of the leadership funnel as measured by the percentage of senior management positions filled by internal candidates, as well as the percentage of middle-management positions filled by internal candidates; the number of other companies that report recruiting from the company being evaluated; and a shareholder value performance metric based on 10-year growth or decline in market capitalization.

The final top-40 ranking consists of public companies with more than $1 billion dollars in revenue. (Jan. 2013)

Monsanto Named one of Thomson Reuters' 2012 Top 100 Global Innovators.
Monsanto was named one of Thomson Reuters 2012 Top 100 Global Innovators based on a series of proprietary, patent-related metrics developed Thomson Reuters Intellectual Property Solutions Business. Being a Thomson Reuters 2012 Top 100 Global Innovator is a prestigious designation. The methodology utilizes a scientific, unbiased approach to identify the organizations that are dedicated to innovation, committed to protecting patent rights globally, and whose inventions have worldwide influence. Monsanto ranked ­­14 on the Top 25 World's Best Multinational Workplaces list by the Great Place to Work® Institute.
Monsanto was one of the 25 multinational companies selected for the list from a group of 251 qualifying multinational corporations. To be eligible for the list, qualifying companies must have appeared on at least five national Great Place to Work® lists, have at least 5,500 employees worldwide, and at least 40 percent of their global workforce must work outside the company's home country. Monsanto placed on the Brazil, India, Argentina, Central America and Mexico "Best Companies to Work For" lists awarded by the Great Place to Work® Institute. 

Monsanto was recognized for its outstanding workplace culture and in recognition of its reputation as a global employer-of-choice. Monsanto is the only St. Louis-based company and only agriculture company recognized in the award's second year. (Nov. 2012)

Monsanto recognized by Human Rights Campaign as having a 100% on their 2013 Corporate Equality Index (CEI).
The Human Rights Campaign Foundation, the nation’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) civil rights organization, rates businesses on a scale from 0 to 100 percent on best practices for LGBT workplace policies and benefits in the Corporate Equality Index (CEI) report. Monsanto also received a score of 100 percent on the CEI report in 2010 and 2011. (Nov. 2012)

Monsanto ranked 5th on Science Magazine’s 2012 Top Employers list.
This survey measures reputation as an employer with people across the scientific industry. To develop the rankings, Science sent the Top Employers survey to over 23,000 individuals who had registered with AAAS or ScienceCareers.org. The final survey results were based on 4,276 respondents. Monsanto’s top three attributes from the survey were: innovation leader in the industry, makes changes needed, and does important quality research. (Sept. 2012)

Monsanto 16th on Forbes list of the World’s Most Innovative Companies
In Forbes’ most recent rankings of the top 100 most innovative companies, Monsanto ranked 16th in the world and 9th in the US. These rankings were based on factors that include the company’s five-year average sale growth (%), five-year net income growth (%), enterprise value (in $ billions) and the “Innovation Premium”. According to original release, the Innovation Premium “is a measure of how much investors have bid up the stock price of a company above the value of its existing business based on expectations of future innovative results (new products, services and markets). Members of the list must have $10 billion in market capitalization, spend at least 1% of their asset base on R&D and have seven years of public data. (Sept. 2012)

Monsanto wins Achievers 50 Most Engaged Workplaces™ Award for 2012
This annual award recognizes top employers that display leadership and innovation towards engaging their employees. The Achievers 50 Most Engaged Workplaces™ Awards panel of judges evaluated each applicant based on the Eight Elements of Employee Engagement™: Communication, Leadership, Culture, Rewards & Recognition, Professional & Personal Growth, Accountability & Performance, Vision & Values and Corporate Social Responsibility. Monsanto ranks #8 on the “Top 50 Employers” in Workforce Diversity For Engineering & IT Professionals Magazine
The readers of Workforce Diversity for Engineering & IT Professionals magazine selected the top companies in the country for which they would most prefer to work or believe would provide a positive working environment for engineers & IT professionals who are members of minority groups. (Aug. 2012)

Monsanto selected as one of Computerworld’s 100 Best Places to Work in IT 2012.
Monsanto ranked 29th on the overall list and 18th among large companies. Computerworld singled out Monsanto’s employee recognition awards and leadership development programs as strengths for the company. (June 2012)

American Heart Association recognizes Monsanto as a 2012 Platinum Level Fit-Friendly Company.

Monsanto Ranks #44 on the 2012 DiversityInc Top 50 Companies for Diversity List.
For the fifth straight year, Monsanto has been named to the DiversityInc Top 50 Companies for Diversity list. A total of 587 companies participated in 2012, up 11 percent from last year. In addition to its #44 overall ranking, Monsanto was ranked #9 on
The DiversityInc Top 10 Companies for Recruitment & Retention. (April 2012)

Monsanto named to the Maplecroft Climate Innovation Index Leaders for the second consecutive year.
The financial index is a list of the top 100 companies selected based on leadership in climate-related innovation and resource management programs, including reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, use of new technologies, pursuit of climate-related opportunities and environmental policies. Monsanto was cited for its efforts in delivering innovations that can help sustainably meet global demand by helping farmers get more from every acre of land, every drop of water and every unit of energy. (April 2012)

To this narrowed list, they also factored in a shareholder value performance metric, slightly modifying point totals where necessary based on 10-year growth or decline in market capitalization. Monsanto Ranks #29 on Glassdoor’s 2012 Best Places to Work Employees' Choice Awards.
Glassdoor’s Employees’ Choice Awards rely solely on the input of employees, who provide constructive feedback on their work environment and senior management throughout the year via an anonymous survey. This is Monsanto’s second consecutive recognition by Glassdoor after placing #33 in 2010. The survey addresses eight key workplace factors that include work/life balance, career opportunities, communication, compensation and benefits, fairness and respect, employee morale, recognition and feedback, and senior leadership. Monsanto Named Corporate Marketer of the Year for 2011
The Business Marketing Association (BMA) recognized Monsanto as one of two Leading Corporate Marketers of 2011. In addition, Monsanto received five category awards from the BMA B2 awards – three for the America’s Farmers campaign, one for its annual report and one for its sustainability report.

Entering its 35th year, the B2 Awards recognize business-to-business marketing programs and demonstrate the ability to transform new, creative ideas into strategic initiatives. Each year hundreds of B2 entries in 29 categories are received, reviewed and judged by a network of more than 60 senior corporate marketers and leading B2B agency executives. (July 2011)

Monsanto honored as one of CIO Magazine’s CIO 100
The CIO 100 identifies and honors 100 organizations that have distinguished themselves by creating business value through the effective and innovative use of IT. Monsanto IT was recognized for creating a solution to combine all field results for soybean and corn field trials to make the data available in real time across multiple brands and function areas. As a result of the project, Monsanto now has consolidated data analysis for all of its 18 brands, and sales teams can now point to performance advantages for specific products. (June 2011)

Working Mother Honors Monsanto on Its “2010 Working Mother 100 Best Companies” List
The annual Working Mother list recognized Monsanto for helping moms and moms-to-be with work/life programs and benefits. (September 2010)

Hugh Grant named CEO of the Year 2010 by Chief Executive magazine (June 2010)

FORTUNE names Monsanto to its 2010 list of “The 100 Best Companies to Work For”
Monsanto ranked 59th overall and 22nd among the largest companies named to the list. (January 2010)

Monsanto Named Company of the Year by Forbes Magazine
On December 31, 2009, Forbes Magazine named Monsanto its Company of the Year for 2009. The magazine praised Monsanto's economic success and innovative new products, referring to the company as an "economic winner." (December 2009)
