Instructions for Inserting a Conversations about Plant Biotechnology Video into a PowerPoint Presentation
STEP ONE: Using the Internet, go to the Video Gallery on the Conversations about Plant Biotechnology Web site.
- Click on the image associated with the video that you would like to insert in a presentation. The selected video will begin playing, and information about the video will appear to the right of the video player. Click on “Download this Video.”
- Follow the on–screen Broadcast Download Instructions to save the video on your computer. PC users are instructed to right–click on the file name and choose “Save.” Macintosh users are instructed to control–click on the file name and choose “Save” or “Download.” The video file will be downloaded to your computer.
- By downloading a video, you agree to our End–Use License Conditions.
STEP TWO: Using PowerPoint, insert the video file into a slide.
- One option is to insert a new slide – choose the “Media Clip and Text Slide.” Double–click on the movie icon, and import or browse your documents to find and choose the downloaded video. Click “OK“ and the video will be inserted into your slide.
OR
Another option is to go to the slide on which you want the video to appear. Using the menu bar at the top of the page, go to “Insert > Movies and Sounds > Movie from File.” (Note: Depending on your version of PowerPoint, the exact wording in the menu bar will vary.) Browse your documents to find and choose the downloaded video. Click “OK” and the video will be inserted into your slide.
- You‘ll be asked whether you want the video to start automatically or when clicked. Make your selection, then resize or reposition the clip on the slide if needed.
STEP THREE: Properly save your file so the video file remains linked to the PowerPoint file.
- The video file is not embedded within your PowerPoint file; there is only a link to the video file you selected. We recommend saving your video file and PowerPoint file in the same folder so they are less likely to be separated.
- If you need to transfer the presentation to another computer or to a CD, you can save the presentation and video file together using the “File > Pack and Go” feature or the “PowerPoint Package” format – again depending on what version of PowerPoint you use. Either option will save the presentation and all of its linked files (images, sounds, movies) in one folder. This makes your presentation portable and easy to copy and send.
