My name is Elizabeth Jele.  I’m farming one-half hectare here next to my house.

... I used to plant conventional corn, and I decided to change to YieldGard after I got some training because we had problems with worms in the conventional corn that were eating our yield.  And we couldn’t get enough food for the family.  Then after I changed to YieldGard, the transgenic corn, there were no worms destroying our crops ...

... After two months, I found that the conventional plants were being destroyed, but the YieldGard was not destroyed by the stalk borers.  And I was happy with it. ...

... With the old seed, I used to plant it, and then when it was knee-high, I had to go and buy chemicals to control the insects.  With this new seed, I don’t have to buy the chemicals anymore ... so I just plant it and leave it.  And my life is now easier and better. ...

... With the profit I get from YieldGard, I’m able to buy seed for onions, spinach and tomatoes, which I sell.  I take the profit from these vegetables to buy fertilizers and seeds so I can continue farming the next season.

... I’m able now to take care of my family and my kids.  Their future looks good because I’m no longer spending too much time in the field managing my farm. ...
